Maac Rowing Championships 2019 Live Feed

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Iona men's outdoor track & field program placed third at the 2019 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Johannes Motschmann won his second race of the championship, dominating the 5,000-meter race. He was named the Co-MAAC Track Performer of the Meet for his two golds; the record-setting 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5K.

The Iona men's cross country and track & field programs have completed a MVP sweep in the its three championship events this season. Liam Dee was named the MAAC Most Outstanding Performer at the 2018 Cross Country Championships; Jordan Brannan was voted the Most Outstanding Track Performer at the 2019 Indoor Track & Field Championships and Motchmann completes the trifecta at the Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Motschmann added a second gold medal to his 2019 championship performance when he crossed the finish line first in the 5K with a time of 14:26.28. He beat Brannan, who finished runner-up, by just-under eight seconds. Jac Hopkins finished the 5K in 15:12.05 for sixth place.

After the Maroon & Gold had three of the top five qualifying times in the 1,500-meter run on Saturday, Iona's top three finishers got four-five-six on Sunday. Daniel Galvin had the fasted Maroon & Gold tie of 3:56.29, just edging out the brother tandem of Liam Dee and Jamie Dee. Riley Tell finished in eighth place at 3:59.74.

Monmouth swept the podium in the 100-meter dash and Prince Forson placed behind the Hawks in fourth place in 11.28 seconds. Teammate Kevin Fullerton finished in sixth place in 11.33 and Gerom Solis notched eighth in 16.59. Come the 200-meter dash, Fullerton finished in second in 21.96 seconds. Forson ran his second sprint in 23.50 seconds for eighth place. Monmouth's Khalid Slocum swept gold in both sprint events.

Come the men's relay events, Iona's best performance came in the 4x100-meter race. Jelani Pierre, Forson, Solis and Fullerton combined to place third with a time of 42.09. Monmouth won the race in a new meet record time of 41.01.

In the 4x400-meter race, Pierre, Forson, Timothy Susko and Brian Warsh took fourth place in 3:31.46. The quartet of Galvin, Jamie Dee, Tell and Liam Dee placed sixth in the 4x800-meter, clocking in a 8:04.26.

The Monmouth Hawks won the women's MAAC Outdoor Track & Field team title. Rider finished in second place, the Gaels. The full men's team rankings are below:

The Hawks won their sixth straight league title propelled by the Co-Men's Most Outstanding Track Performer, Khalid Slocum. Monmouth also won the Track Rookie of the Championship in Nadale Buntin, the Most Outstanding Field Performer in Corey Murphy. Rider's Ayomide Oyewole won MAAC Men's Rookie of the Meet in field events.

Motschmann was previously named the Most Outstanding Track Performer at the 2018 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Iona track & field continues on. The Army West Point Twilight is on Thursday, May 9, followed by the ECAC Championships and NCAA Regional and Championship meets.
